STATEMENT OF FAITH
What We Believe
About God:
God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three personalities: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God. Genesis 1:1, 26-27; Genesis 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19
About Jesus Christ:
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus lived a sinless life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on the cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords. Matthew 1:22-23; John 1:1-5; John 14:10-31; Romans 1:4
About the Holy Spirit:
The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. As Christians, we seek to live under His control daily. II Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13; Ephesians 5:18; John 14:17
About the Bible:
The Bible is God’s word to us. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because God inspires it, it is the truth without error. The Bible was not written only to educate us, but to change our lives. Psalm 119:19; II Timothy 3:16
About People:
People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God’s creation. We believe that human life begins at conception, and the unborn child is a living human being. (Psalm 139:14-16) Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience towards God. This attitude, called sin, separates people from God and causes many problems in life. Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6, Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1-2
About Family:
Marriage is defined in the Bible as a covenant, a sacred bond between one man and one woman, instituted by and publicly into before God. Matthew 19:4-6
About Eternity:
People were created to exist forever. We will exist with God through forgiveness and salvation in a place called Heaven or separated from God by sin in a place called Hell. Heaven and Hell are real places of eternal existence. John 3:16; Romans 6:23; Romans 8:17-18; Revelation 20:15

My Scriptural Membership Covenant
Having received Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, believing in being water baptized and being in agreement with Charleston’s mission, values, vision, beliefs and purpose, I now feel led by the Holy Spirit to unite with Charleston's church family. In doing so, I commit myself to God and the other members to do the following:
1. I will SECURE the unity of my church by...
...acting in love toward other members ...refusing to gossip ...following the leaders
“So then let us pursue what makes for peace and for mutual understanding.” Rom. 14:19; “Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart,” 1 Pet. 1:22; “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.” Eph. 4:29; “Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.” Heb. 13:17 (ESV)
2. I will SHARE the responsibility of my church by...
...praying for growth ...inviting the unchurched to attend ...warmly welcoming visitors
“We give thanks to God always for all of you, constantly mentioning you in our prayers,” 1 Thess. 1:2; “And the master said to the servant, ‘Go out to the highways and hedges and compel people to come in, that my house may be filled.’ ” Luke 14:23; “Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.” Rom. 15:7 (ESV)
3. I will SERVE the ministry of my church by...
...discovering my gifts and talents ...being equipped to serve ...developing a servant's heart
“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.” 1 Pet. 4:10; “And he {God} gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ.” Eph. 4:11-12; “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” Phil. 2:4 (ESV)
4. I will SUPPORT the testimony of my church by...
...attending faithfully ...living a godly life ...giving regularly
“…not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” Heb. 10:25; “Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the gospel,” Phil. 1:27; “On the first day of every week, each of you is to put something aside and store it up, as he may prosper, so that there will be no collecting when I come.” 1 Cor. 16:2; “Every tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land or of the fruit of the trees, is the Lord’s; it is holy to the Lord.” Lev. 27:30 (ESV)
